Her father was the headmaster and choirmaster of a big Viennese church. She studied singing at the Vienna Konservatorium under Joseph Gänsbacher, additionally with Louise Dustmann and Mampe-Babbnigg. The manager of the Hamburg Opera, Bernhard Pollini, engaged her to appear at his house, where she and made her debut in 1893. In the 1894-1901 seasons she appeared at the Stadttheater in Strasbourg. In  the 1896-1897 season she sang at the Bayreuth Festival. In 1899 she made guest appearances at the Oper in Frankfurt a. M. as Isolde in ‘’Tristan und Isolde’’, then at the  Theater of Zurich as Aida.

From 1900 to 1914 she was a soloist of the Berlin Hofoper. In 1909 here she sang the title part in the première of the opera ‘’Elektra’’ of R. Strauss. In 1904 she performed at the Covent Garden as Isolde, Venus and Ortrud and in 1910 as an Elektra in the English première of Richard Strauss’s ‘’Elektra’’. She also made guest appearances in Vienna, Munich, Dresden and Amsterdam. Later she lived in Berlin, where she worked as vocal pedagogue, then in Rodaun near Vienna.

Plaichinger Mathilde (Thila), Sängerin und Gesangpädagogin. 

Tochter eines Schuldir. und Kirchenchorleiters; stud. am Konservatorium der Stadt Wien bei Gänsbacher (s. d.), Dustmann-Meyer (s. d.) sowie Mampé (s. d.) und wurde 1893 von Pollini an das Hamburger Opernhaus engagiert. 1894-1901 vertrat sie das hochdramat. Fach am Stadttheater in Straßburg und wirkte ab 1896 bei den Festspielen in Bayreuth mit. 1899 gastierte sie als Isolde in Frankfurt a. M., 1900-1914 sang sie mit großem Erfolg an der Berliner Hofoper. Gastspiele führten P. 1901-1911 zu den Wagner-Festen nach München, 1904 und 1910 nach London, ferner nach Wien, Dresden und Amsterdam. Ab 1910 war sie in Berlin und später in Wien als Gesangpädagogin tätig.
