Gustav Mahler’s never-written opera at the Vienna State OperaThe production Vonder Liebe Tod is an artistic experiment: two Gustav Mahler masterpieces, Dasklagende Lied and the Kindertotenlieder, are combined into one fully staged-operatic evening. Calixto Bieito, himself a great Gustav Mahler fan, has taken onthis extraordinary project as a stage director.
On the podium, the young Swiss conductor Lorenzo Viotti, one of the most up-and-coming conductors of our time, will make his State Opera debut. Heading a stellar cast is bass-baritone FlorianBoesch, who enthusiastically jumped at the idea of this staged Mahler projectand will make his debut at the Haus am Ring.

Dates: 29 September (premiere); 2,5, 7, 10 and 13 October.
