In November 1905 Mahler made four piano rolls for M. Welte & Sohne in Leipzig.
These piano rolls are the only accurate and detailed impression of how Mahler played his music.
The Gustav Mahler Vereinigung in Hamburg just restored one of the few Steinway Welte-Mignon pianos left. This is Mahler as close as you can get.
