Friends, Festivals, and the Future

May 18th, 2021

  • Simon Reinink, Director of Het Concertgebouw and the Amsterdam Gustav Mahler Festival;
  • Monique Veaute, Director of the Spoleto Festival and her plans for a program in the spirit of The Song of the Earth;
  • Maestro Long Yu, Chairman of the Artistic Committee, and Shuang Zou, Artistic Director of the Beijing Music Festival will present a series of exciting upcoming events in China, including the release of an entirely unique version of The Song of the Earth.

This edition of The Mahler Hour marks the 110th anniversary of Mahler’s passing in 1911 and the first anniversary of The Mahler Hour.

To celebrate the completion of our first year of livestream webcasts, Mahler Foundation is inviting some of its international cooperating partners to discuss their upcoming festivals and Mahler events as we slowly emerge from the pandemic.

We will begin with Wolfgang Schaufler of Universal Edition, the company that began issuing Mahler’s works already in 1909. We will discuss the publisher’s long history with Mahler, their engagement in the Mahler world today, and their plans for the future.

We will then turn to the directors of festivals around the world that will be dedicating a considerable portion of their programming to Mahler in the next few years.
